4" African Violet
African Violet Indoor Care Guide 🌸
African Violets (Saintpaulia) are beloved for their soft, velvety leaves and continuous blooms in shades of purple, pink, blue, and white. These compact plants thrive in bright, indirect light—an east- or north-facing window is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. Rotate the pot occasionally to keep growth even.
Keep the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Water from the bottom when possible to avoid spotting the leaves, and use room-temperature water. We recommend a light, well-aerated soil mix—FoxFarm’s Happy Frog® Potting Soil works well, especially when mixed with a bit of perlite to boost drainage.
African violets love moderate to high humidity and consistent temperatures between 65–75°F. Fertilize every 2–4 weeks with a gentle, balanced fertilizer formulated for blooming houseplants. Remove spent blooms and keep the foliage clean and dry to prevent rot.
With a little attention to moisture and light, these charming plants will reward you with frequent, cheerful blooms year-round.
