Light
- Provide bright, filtered, or indirect sunlight. Direct sun for a few hours is acceptable, but it will not tolerate low light.
- An east or west-facing window is often ideal.
Water
- Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Do not let it dry out completely, as this can cause leaf drop.
- Water when the top of the soil feels dry to the touch, roughly once every 7–10 days, depending on your home's conditions.
- Use room-temperature water and a pot with drainage holes to prevent root rot.
Temperature and humidity
- Maintain a consistent temperature, ideally between
60 − 70 ∘ F - Keep the plant away from heating and cooling vents, which can cause temperature fluctuations.
- Increase humidity, as it is a tropical plant. Mist the leaves with lukewarm water, use a humidifier, or place the pot on a pebble tray with water.
