Hoya globulosa is a montane, vining epiphyte that thrives in bright, indirect light and chunky, fast-draining soil.
Light
  • Provide bright, gentle, indirect light or filtered morning sun.
  • Protect the textured leaves from harsh, direct afternoon sun.
  • According to Unsolicited Plant Talks, this variety does not change color under high light (it will not sunstress).
  • Watering
  • Water thoroughly only when the potting mix is mostly dry.
  • Allow excess water to drain completely and never let the pot sit in standing water.
  • Reduce watering slightly during cooler winter months. As noted on Vermont Hoyas, keep the plant drier in winter while ensuring it does not shrivel.
  • Soil & Potting
  • Use a coarse, highly aerated, bark-based epiphytic mix.
  • Choose a small, snug pot because root systems are sensitive to prolonged moisture and prefer being slightly root-bound.
  • Temperature & Humidity
  • Maintain ideal temperatures between 60°F and 85°F during active growth.
  • This montane species appreciates cooler nighttime temperatures and can tolerate slightly cooler conditions than lowland tropical hoyas, but protect it from temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
  • Aim for moderate-to-high humidity (40%–60% or higher), supported by good air circulation.
  • Maintenance
  • Feed monthly with a diluted, balanced houseplant fertilizer during the spring and summer.
  • Do not cut off flower spurs (peduncles), as hoyas re-bloom from the same spots year after year.
