The Sago Palm, scientifically known as Cycas revoluta, is a popular houseplant notable for its lush, feathery foliage and ancient lineage. Originating from the southern regions of Japan, it is not a true palm but a cycad, a group of plants with a history dating back to the time of dinosaurs.

Appearance

The Sago Palm typically grows to about 2-3 feet indoors, although it can reach over 10 feet in its natural habitat. It has a rugged trunk topped with a crown of glossy, dark green leaves that are stiff and arching. Each leaflet is narrow and pointed, giving the plant an overall rosette appearance.

Care

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct sun.

Watering
Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.

Temperature: Thrives in warm environments, ideally between 65°F and 85°F (18°C – 29°C).
Soil: Use well-draining soil, such as a mix of sand, peat, and perlite.
Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer during the growing season.
Caution: The plant is toxic if ingested, so it’s essential to keep it away from pets and children.
